Changes to the law relating to size and content of fireworks 2007
Since 1 January 2007 The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has required
that fireworks supplied in the UK conform to new United Nations guidelines
(UN/ADR). The review and change came about as the result of an explosion in
a fireworks company in the Netherlands in 2000.
The types and the amounts of explosives permitted have changed.
This is good in that it makes firework displays safer but unfortunately it
does also mean that some effects are less impressive than they would have
been with more powerful and larger quantities of explosives.
In particular some of the larger rockets are no longer available. All UK
firework retailers are affected and any continuing to supply old stock after
the transition period will be liable to prosecution.
Chinese Fireworks will continue to provide the most spectacular fireworks
available. Although precise formulations have been modified we continue to
work closely with our manufacturers to develop the best possible displays
within the limits of the new safety requirements.
